Experimental Film Evaluation
Looking back at our final film I feel like the concept behind it was good however I don't feel like we executed it as best as we could. The main problem with it is the pace of it. It seems too slow and too long. We were unable to make it any shorter however because to meet the requirements of the brief it had to be at least 5 minuets long. However a better approach to take would of been to have a faster upbeat sound scape which would have kept the pace moving. I feel like the sound scape when a lot different to what we wanted. This was partly due to running out of sounds from our recording session because we hadn't planned the sound scape back then. We did find some non copyright sounds on line to help us improve it but we by this point were running very thin on time. We also had the problem of the group members who was meant to be doing sound being ill for the last week leaving the rest of us to try and do it. I think if I did this process again I would plan the sound at a much earlier stage and then go and get the sound recordings so we had everything we wanted and also I would start putting it together at a much earlier date to give us a lot more time to sort it out. Thinking visually about this piece I am very happy with it because I feel like it was authentic and we tried to have interesting angles. I feel like the only problem we had was with some of the going out scene at night it was slightly too dark. We did however correct this as much as possible because in post production and this improved the look of it a lot more. If I had edited this piece solely alone I would of made it a much shorter fast cut piece with no overlays. I couldn't do this however because each member had made a story and I had to find a way to incorporate everyone's story. I think our final piece is good but their is a lot I would change about if I got to do this again and I feel this was partly to do with the strong minded group I was trying to work with. I feel like the group did clash a lot at times and it was always my obligation as director to try and move us on and solve the problems that members were having. I think my input in this group was strong and constant as I always involved myself in everything but my primary role was Director and Editor and I fulfilled these roles to the best of my ability.
