We came back in to finish editing on 2nd & 3rd May 2017 as we needed to now refine our piece and act on the feedback we had received. Here is what happened across these 2 days:
Editing Meeting 5 (2/5/17)
Today we all came in in the morning to all work together on beginning to refine the piece and add effects. Katherine got here earlier so she began combining each section of the dance all together on one timeline and merging it together. Then when me and Sugini arrived we were happy with the ways she had moved from one section to another and it flowed well but also look interesting. We then moved on together to begin playing withe effects. We decided to start with the most important effect which we really wanted to try which was the lightning effect in the Astraphobia section of the dance. We had many ideas of how we could create this effect so we just began experimenting. First we tried the presets but none of the presets did the kind thing we wanted. We wanted some white and colour flashes/fades so we tried many different effects but the best way was to duplicate the footage where we wanted the flashes to happen and colour tiny parts of this then again on top of this insert a white blank screen and use transition fade in and out effects on these to make it seem like a really quick flash followed by some faint colour. This worked well and so Katherine then went and added this through out to all the relevant parts we wanted it on. We then went and began adding effects to Arachnophobia now we were happy with Astraphobia. We decided to make this section seem more spidery some delayed overlays would work really effectively to make it seem like she has multiple movements and arms etc. We applied these using layers of the same footage but at slightly different timings with a low opacity and this gave us a nice effect which also looked creepy like we wanted. We then put this in all the places we thought it would work most effectively. Then we created a glitching effect to fill the blank space in this dance section. This was meant to be a jump scare but as the relevant footage was not filmed for a pan here we instead creatively made it seem like a glitch in an experimental way. We liked this and were then happy with this section of dance so then we moved on to look at Claustrophobia. This section we were all very happy with and we thought maybe it would be good to keep it simple without effects as its the middle section and we don't want the effects to be too full on as the dance is important too. So we left this section as it was. We then went through and took out some clips and replaced them by others and basically just refined the whole thing till we were all happy with it. Then myself and Sugini left Katherine to colour the piece as she wanted to and we agreed we would look into the credits tomorrow.
Editing Meeting 6 (3/5/17)
We had been brainstorming names for this piece as we weren't happy with just calling it Phobia as this was too literal. We eventually settled on the name 'Avoidance' as it has Dance in it but is also a word linked to Phobia as people avoid their phobias however with this dance we are making them face these fears. Katherine then made a title sequence on the piece with this title. She also added the credits in as well. Me and Sugini then watched it the whole way through now it had been coloured with credits and titles etc. We both watched it and were really happy with it so that was our piece finished. The last thing to do now was to add bars, tone and a clock and export it to the relevant standards and settings. This is now the editing process complete!
