Following my learning agreement which my teacher had already seen I had to edit this and write it up into a proposal for the Curator of the gallery to review so we could get the green light for the exhibition. We also had to come up with a name for our piece. I chose to call it 'Under Surveillance' because I began looking into a lot of fancy words for CCTV and Surveillance etc but then I realised as I am appealing to younger audiences of my age and downwards I wanted to keep it simple also like my piece is. So thats what led me to come up with 'Under Surveillance' because that is essentially the basis of what my piece is. Its all about giving Surveillance a human face but for the audience to reach this conclusion the title of my piece will lead them to know that it is based on Surveillance as a starting point for them. Here is my Proposal that was sent to the Curator:
Under Surveillance
An installation with a live feed camera wired up to a TV. The camera will be directly opposite the TV so that it creates a looped live image between camera and TV. This means the viewer will stand in the middle and see themselves from all angles and multiples of themselves yet will never be able to see there face as the camera is behind. Because they are looking at their own bodies as if it were cctv this adds a human face to this idea of surveillance. I will create a soundscape made using the camera's microphone itself that picks up the sound of the viewer and loops it to the TV to further reinforce my point.
Thankfully our exhibition has got the go ahead to be installed in the front gallery space of the university and along the main corridor which I am very excited about. I now need to come up with an official name and artist statement to accompany my piece for when it is installed.
