I had already looked at film noire with my group as this was an initial inspiration for us especially with the detective character that we used. I decided before editing to revisit some film noire pieces of inspiration myself to further my knowledge so that during editing I could make it look authentic. here are stills from a detective themed film noir piece called 'The Chase':
What I really like about them is that they have the background lit a lot of the time and the figure constantly coming on or out of darkness, I also love how a lot of the lighting is very directional and this makes it bolder. To create this bold look I think we will need to play with the brightness and contrast primarily in editing. However I do'nt think we want the price to go as far as black and white because this may distance the audience too much for them to take it seriously so we will make up for this by dulling it down a lot and we have even discussed colour correcting to add a blue hue to it so its colder to give it a film noir feel.
