I have also learnt how to cut a subject out of a video through rota-scoping.I did this by finding a video online to use but I chose one that was good quality but also had very contrasting colours between the foreground subject and the background. This makes the process a bit easier. I chose a video of a swan flying against a dark background. I inserted this video into my composition. I then at the top made sure I was clicked on the footage bar of this video layer. I then got the rota-scope tool which looks like a man holding a paintbrush and on my first key-frame I used this tool to draw in my swan. This then selects the swan as my subject and cuts it out of the background. You wont be able to see this till you go back onto the composition window. I then used the short cut of
Page up and Page Down to scroll through each key frame one by one using the rota-scope tool to select the swan. Once you have done this for all your desired key frames you can go back onto composition window and view it. To then make the edges look neater I feathered them through the effects on the rota scope drop down menu in effects control. There are a lot of different effects in this menu that can make it look neater but it was just a case of experimented till I got something I was happy with. Now I had done the basics I experimented further by doing things such as duplicating the swan but using skills learnt in the key lighting work shop to layer a picture upon the duplicated swan and moving this to make it look like a shadow. Here is my first experiment:
Then I did another experiment where I added more duplication's of the swan but made them like a reflection so that it was even more abstract. Here is my second experiment:
