Avid Editing Studio Shoot Task - Extra Evening 1

I was very aware of how little time I had within lessons to get this edit done so I took the initiative to go back of an evening to do some extra editing. I mainly wanted to go and look at my edit so far with fresh eyes so that I could see what was working so far and what wasn't before proceeding any further.

Last time I was editing I played a lot with overlays and opacity using the superimpose tool. I deciding after re watching these I really liked these section best because to me they linked it to this idea that the piece is conceptual and taking place in someones head so its not meant to look realistic. I also feel this multiple overlay idea links to the way your brain remembers certain memories differently when you look back so this represents the multiply ways you think and remember things. I reinforced this by adding another overlays sequence where the fight begins to happen:

I also realised that with these sequence they can look a bit too sudden unless you fade the overlays in and out as you can see I have done above. I went back and did this to the other overlay shots I have already in the sequence. Lastly I re-watched it and cut out some material to shorten down the chair sequence as it seemed too long to me and I also cut out some of the overlay effects as I didn't want it to be too overpowering visually. I want it to only happen when needed so that the meaning I have spoken about makes more of an impact.

I feel I am becoming more aware of how I can use these visual editing techniques on Avid to actually add to the meaning and style of the piece and therefore make it more interesting.
