I then realised that doing this was creating a very slow pace to the piece which was making it exciting like I wanted it to be. Once I had got about quarter of the way through which just a basic edit I decided to then go back over it add more effects an exciting elements so that I could begin to experiment and work out what kind of style I wanted for my edit:
I really liked the idea of making it surreal through effects because obviously our piece is an abstract concept taking place in the mind and I want this to be reflected through the edit. Therefore I experimented with effects such as Superimpose which changed the opacity and let me layer images, Timeworn which aloud me to change the speed of clips, Speed bump which allowed me to change the speed of the clips in a very spastic way through out giving it a abstract element, Motion Blur which let me add a very horror stayed blur to the images replicating a very surreal feeling of dizziness etc. I then carried on with this kind of styled I had developed:
In the chair section of the piece I found another interesting technique by using the Superimpose effect and a lot of layering as you can see by my timeline in the image above. Basically I layer 2/3 of the same clip on top of each other but each one had a second delay on it so were all running at slightly different times. Then I added the Superimpose effect allowing me to reduce the opacity on all the clips making a trail kind of effect which I found worked really well for certain segments like when the actress is pulling scary faces in a very distressing manor. This effect just makes it even more tense and creepy which I like. I also played with this Superimpose effect with slightly different clips but of the same chair sequence which basically create a layered image but all the images were moving slightly differently at different times as they were different takes. I liked this thought because I feel it reflects the idea of your mind when you try to remember what happened and you aways remember things slightly different every time. I feel this is effective so I moved on and carried on adding layering and effects:
This is how my timeline looked by the end of this day of editing. I got about just under half way through the entire piece but I feel like my horror inspired, abstract style is developing well I just need to continue in this way and then refine it once I have a rough cut.
