Camera Movement Lecture - Developing Ideas

During a lecture all about pre-production but also movement of the camera within the dance video I began to think within my group about how what we had spoken about could work within our Phobia Dance Video piece visually.

Here is what the group discussed when we began thinking into creating dance scores incorporating the camera. I have also worked into this more as well as Director of my piece :

Arachnophobia -

Begin with the Dancer still in the corner of the space, low to the ground possible crouched. There hand is the spider at the beginning and they react to their hand in a fearful way as it moves around and on them. The camera starts very close up to their hand while this is happening. The camera then slowly tracks backwards revealing a lot more of the frame. The camera begins acting like someone with this phobia in the way it is creeping away. As the camera is creeping away the dancers body is slowly evolving until the spider has inhabited all of them. The dancer begins to move towards the camera which pauses still on a long shot. The camera expresses fear a lot more literally by then glancing away from the dancer for a second and then looks back to see an empty space. The dancer as a spider suddenly scurries/jumps back out into shot to create almost a jump  scare kind of effect.

Claustrophobia -

The dancer is trapped in a imaginary space which we can't see. However the dancer is actually trapped by the camera surrounding them. Build tension with this by having quick spontaneous close ups of their particular fearful movements and expressions. There is also a possibility to develop on from this by having the camera circle the dancer to again physically trap them with in this small space. This could then become a bigger and bigger circle to maybe reveal some kind of box which is trapping them therefore making it seem realistic.

I am very happy with the work I have done on these two phobias however these are just rough scores we came up with while talking and I have developed them on a bit. However after I have done some research into the Phobias and made more progress I will revisit these an work into them a lot more.
