Revised Basic Choreography - Dance Video

I have already written out rough scores and parts of Choreography so that we were able to develop the camera shot list and lighting etc (refer to previous post.) However these were only basic guidelines as I understand that once we begin working with the Dancers this will be interpreted by them and fleshed out in a much stronger way. Now that we have had a meeting and chosen a Dancer I need to revise this plan though because I originally wrote it based on 2 Dancers working with one another however we have changed the piece to be based on only 1 dancer. Here are the revised plans/choreography:

Arachnophobia

We begin with the Dancer entering the space on a low level. They will stop on the very edge of the space just about reaching the spotlighted section. Here they will begin with there hand acting as a spider crawling around the space and over there body. The Dancer will be fearful of their own hand as they do this. The camera will begin with a lot of close ups of this happening however will then slowly start to track back away from the Dancer in fear. While this is happening the Dancer will slowly find ways to begin embodying the spider with their whole body. As they do this they will begin travelling further into the middle of the space with towards the camera. As the dancer approaches the camera, the camera will glance away in fear. When the camera looks back the Dancer will no longer be in view. The Dancer will then find an exciting way to reenter the shot to create a Jump Scare as the Dancer is still the Spider at this point. The Spider will then stick to low levels but begin frantically moving and exploring the space embodying the spider to their full potential. The camera will try and track these frantic movements. The Spider and the camera will then come face to face. The spider will slow down in pace here slightly and become more rhythmic with the music while focusing on isolating certain limbs of the body which will embody specific traits from the Spider but also specific traits of fear. Possibility here to have the Dancer interact with the camera by having the dancer as the spider begin to lean over the camera as the camera then ends up pushed back onto the floor looking up at the spider towering over them (could do this the other way round). The end needs to focus on the aggression of the spider transforming back into a very frightened real person curled up on the floor.

Claustrophobia

Dancer is now sat alone and scared in the middle of the empty space. She begins to look around relieved and then goes to move. However when she tries to move she realises she is trapped by an imaginary box. She begins expressing fear as she is trying to escape. Here we will use frantic close ups to show the panic as she starts to escape. However even when she begins to escape she is being pulled back by this imaginary force which keeps trying to push her back into a tiny space. This section will build and begin to get more aggressive as this force is effecting the Dancer more and more. The Dancer will then after this build freeze in fear and curl up in a ball expressing the feelings experienced when Phobias strike. Then again she will try to get up off the floor but a force will be this time pushing her down towards the ground. This section will be more about exploring the vertical  space when being trapped. This section will finally end with her being stood up in the middle of this space. She must be breathing heavily. She then becomes the phobia herself using her own arms and legs to trap her own movements so like one half of the body is fighting the other. This will then build to her giving up eyes shut and fists clenched. We will see her stood in the empty massive space for a moment before moving onto the next phobia.

Astraphobia

She is now stood in the middle of the space looking around. Suddenly there will be a flash of lighting (lighting setup) and she suddenly drops with fear. She is heavily breathing which then begins to transform into her pulsing rhythmically balling up her fists waiting for the next strike. When the next strike happens she explodes as if she is now being controlled or taken over by the Thunder and Lightning. This happens a few times and then she will end one of the strikes by looking upwards in wonder as if at the sky. This is to try and show her becoming the Lighting. The pace will pick up involving lots of leaps, jumps and exciting high levelled travelling as she find ways to embody this phobia. Interesting ways to involve the camera could be by having the dancer circle the camera and also the camera circling the dancer. The camera can also be moving through and around certain limbs of the dancer. Each strike she be getting more dramatic with the dancer getting much more energetic until the final strike where by the dancer falls down lifeless to the floor with a fade to white.

Extra Footage (for cut aways)

Extra footage of the dancer standing and lying in the middle of the space looking and acting vulnerable showing all the signs of phobia that we have researched. Such as twitching, balled up fists, heavy and fast breathing, frantic, tense muscles etc. This will give us footage to cut away to if needed.

These rough sets/scores of movements and dance will be my basis for creating a storyboard for this piece. This will help me visualise it a lot more.
