On 06.11.17 Katherine had arranged a full group meeting for her piece to discuss the developments so far and run over things. For this piece I am her AD, Co-Choreographer and Assistant Editor so I have a lot of involvement from start to end within this so the Group Meetings are really valid and valuable to me. Here are the main points of what we covered in this meeting:
The length that we are aiming to now make the piece is roughly 3:30 minutes as we don't want to try and make it too long and loose interest so this is a nice amount of time and is also the regular length of a music track as well.
Katherine has sourced Colin to create a music track for the piece which will match the desired length and feel. She briefed him prior to this meeting so today we all got a chance to listen to what Colin had made music track wise so far. We really liked it, especially how ghostly it was with a nice rhythm running through out. We have all agreed however that it needs some more archive in it for a bit more of a historical link and also maybe it needs more of a dramatic build to it. I feel like with these changes and how good it is already we will have a really nice soundtrack to choreograph to.
Katherine has made the decision that she will now be using 2 dancers. This fits more with how her theme has developed as well. Rather than focusing too heavily on the actual Gun Powder, instead it now links to the war. In particular it explores the idea of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) from the war and the effects of this will be reflected through the dance. It will be either 2 males or 2 females however males would be more preferable as back in old war times males were the ones who went to war. Katherine has even thought into costume too and want to have one dancer in overall, workbooks and an apron as if working and then one dancer will be in army uniform talking the first dancer. This is to portray how the war always will effect them and how they are trying to re-grow and move on but aren't always able to. I really love this newly developed theme as I feel like it has a lot of potential especially for a lot of exciting contact between the 2 dancers within the spaces.
Katherine has planned to do her auditions and casting the week beginning 27th of this month. This will be over two sessions, one will be held in Surry and one will be held in London to try and draw in more diverse dancers. I volunteered a while back to help with these auditions and so today Katherine asked me to help lead auditions with her when we do them. I was more than happy to agree to this as I am comfortable and happy talking to dancers. Hopefully we will get the dancers we need in these auditions however if we need to re-cast we can do it in December if needs be.
Katherine has also planned out to start the rehearsals with myself and Dancer hopefully on the week starting 11th December so that we can get the dance properly choreographed in time for the shoot dates which are :
Pre-Light - Monday 15th January 2018
Shoot Days - Monday 29th January to Wednesday 31st January 2018
Pre-Vis material may also be shot next week if we are able to get everything arranged. If we are able to we may create a short video from this pre-vis to possibly help Katherine open up a funding page online for the piece depending on how the budget works out.
This meeting was very helpful to discuss dates and find out exactly what we will be doing for this piece and when. I am very excited to find Dancers now so that we can begin choreography.
