Sound Project - Planning out a Sound Scape Attempt 2

After attempting to begin creating a sound scape for 'Maman' I realised that my recordings had been very unsuccessful so I went back the drawing board and decided to go with the painting 'The Persistence of Memory' instead as this had me much more inspired now. Before capturing sounds I decided I needed a much more solid plan first of what kind of sound I wanted and why. This led me to go back and research into it in more detail:

I have already discovered that this piece is a painting of a dream but now I am gain more insight into the imagery that makes up this particular dream scape. This is meant to be a seaside scene in a dream and the cliffs in the background which are probably the most realistic element are depicting the cliffs in Catalonia, Spain where his home was. So it does have elements incorporated into it which are depicting the real world but I think this is because in our dreams real elements do creep in. For exile they say that every face you see in a dream is a real face that you have seen in real life.

Moving on to then look at the distorted creature in the centre it is almost depicting a face which Dali has imagined up however it is very strange in the way it is composed almost depicting another kind of creature. The long eyelashes are very similar to insect legs and the nose has a tongue like object emerging from it but it is more recognisable as something like a slug or snail emerging from its shell. It has also been speculated that this creature i meant to be a sort of self portrait of himself. It is uncertain what this is intended to be but I just really like the way it combines so many elements in it to mess up the idea of reality making it seem very dream like.

Time is the most important factor in this image. This has been made obvious in some ways such as actually having these drooping clocks melting away everywhere which represents the fact that time is falling away and is no longer real. Really like this element of his painting because to me the worst but most distinctive element to a dream is that you genuinely don't have a proper concept of time anymore. I feel like he informs this not through these melting clocks and I feel like if you were to imagine the sounds that go along with it distorted clock ticking would be something I would want to hear.

Another element he includes which is speaking about time is the pocket watch seen right in the corner of the image. It is a solid pocket watch which is very recognisable however he then plays with this idea by having ants crawling all over it and eating away at it. The way this is happening has been compared to decaying flesh that they could be eating away at. I feel like this works because again it is saying that time is decaying in the dream so you are loosing the concept of time further and further like this watch is decaying further and further as the ants eat away at it.

After researching and looking into this image I decided to mind map all the words which came to mind for me linking to this image but also what kind of sounds could be made:

I think the biggest thing that comes to mind though when I first start thinking into exactly what sounds I want is clock ticking to represent time as that is the biggest factor for me here. However I want to make time loose all meaning which I could do by distorting it each time it ticks almost like a loop but every time it becomes more and more distorted till it becomes a mess of unrealistic sound like the clocks have become in this image. I have decided that to give it more depth I want to have a variety of ticking noises however I want o involve other elements rather than just different clocks so for example some clicking and tapping etc. The next step for me now is to start recording these sounds.
