Set Building Begins!

On Thursday we were given the day to start our set build. This was a very big task as there was a lot to do but thankfully we had a large team to do it as both groups were working together. A small set had already been left in the studio which was 3 panels by 3 panels in a corner shape so we kept this as the corner for room one and started stripping the walls back which took a long time due to the amount of paper and paint that had been layered up on them:

This task was made slightly easier because a few members of the team brought in more tools to help us clean and strip the walls back and also one member even brought in a wallpaper steamer which was again very helpful and made it easier. This room/half of the set was meant to be the neat side because thats what the other group wanted and therefore we also wanted it neat as well to suit our superego so we took a lot more care here to make the walls as nice a possible.

Then when we had enough members there to lift the panels and start building we began sourcing enough panels to finish the build. We also had to source some electric drills, screws and plates to put it all together in a structurally sound way. We started preparing these panels ready to be put up too but pulling off the wallpaper etc as much as we could while we waited for the next panel to be ready to be built:

It took a lot of coordination and team work to get all the panels up and attached together in a safe way without injury. We spent a long time making sure they were secure and strong enough to hold themselves. Here is us attaching one of the last panels of the day:

The actually building of the set took longer than anticipated but while half of us concentrated on doing this together the other half were carrying on stripping all the walls and even starting to lay the lining paper which we had sourced ourselves. The wallpapering took a lot longer on the nice side of the set because we wanted it to be as nice as possible where as we rushed the side that we were going to make messy because any slight imperfections would add to the set anyway. Here is where we got to by the end of the day:
Its not clear to see in that photo but we managed to get all walls up and he set built. we however haven't finished all the wallpapering but as you can see most of it is done its just a few of the back and side panels which aren't wallpapered yet but we are planning to sort this as soon as we can next week.

Today has been very exhausting because we spent all day on this set build however it was very fun and has also taught me a lot of skills I didn't have before about set builds. I enjoyed working with he team and it was fun as well as hard work!
