Unfortunately I was unable to attend the painting that began yesterday on our set because I was too ill however the group informed me of what has happened. They began with a basic light grey colour which the painted onto the walls with a roller. Then when this had started to dry which didn't take long they then very carefully got the basic deep brown colour and stippled it onto the walls above the grey. Then as a few people went round doing the brown stippling people followed doing a more sparse layer of grey stippling on top. Then more people were coming round after the grey and brown had been stippled on and they were using a wet paint brush to blend these two together to create our mouldy rusty looking effect on the walls. Throughout the day they managed to get two of our three walls done in this way.

As my group were doing this and also informing me of their progress we then found out the other group had painted their set Purple as opposed to pastel green which was originally agreed and you will see this if you refer to my previous post about the set arrangements. Unimpressed by this and also by the way they hid it from us till the last minute we decided to once again compromise and instead of using dark green to match their set as the top coat of our walls we instead changed it to deep purple. This was done this morning before our second day of panting.
I was fortunate enough to be well enough to attend this second day of painting. Our group met early in the morning and began by finishing off the third wall with the grey and brown in the same way it had been done the day before. We then moved on to start using our dark purple. We began with basic splats across the wall again done by stippling.
However it didn't seem to blend in enough so we used a wet paint brush and really mattered down purple to blend it more into the brown. Then we got newspaper and began scraping away at the purples as well to make a rough texture and again help blend it. This work really effectively as it made it look almost like the walls are bruised which was a happy coincidence.
We then worked on how to make the mirror (empty doorway) the main point of the room. We decided to paint purple around thew doorframe and then try and make it so it slowly blended into the brown.
To again make it blend more effectively like the purple in the rest of the wall we used stippling, Wet brushes and lots of scrapping with the news paper which we actually had to go get more of! Overall it was a really successful day because all the painting is now finished and it now matches the other half the set nicely despite our little setback with he change if colour. While a lot of us focused on this painting today we also had our Gaffa testing out lighting some of the lighting plans to see how it looked with the paint colours chosen which was very helpful for us and for him. We then made a plan of action for tomorrow which involves a lot of Prop sourcing and the finishing of paperwork. I am very proud of how far are group has got all working very happily and well together.
